Executive
Coaching /
Mentoring:
Why executive coaching? What
are you looking for in your business life? How stable are the
personal dynamics of your workplace? How comfortable are you with
all the choices you've made in life? Together we can address
these
issues so you can learn to focus on your goals, communicate better with
others, and dare to succeed on your own terms.
I know you're asking this question; why
should I call you? Well, let's first talk about what I can
do for
you, the executive. What are the issues that I will help you
with?
1) I will
help you
sharpen your leadership
skills.
2) I will be
your
confidante; many people in leadership
positions don't have anyone to talk to who has been through some of the
things they have to go through; I have. You may not feel like you
can talk to someone you work with, for fear they may think less of you
in some way; I have no agendas because I don't work where you work; you
can speak freely to me, and I'll always be honest with you, but in a
kinder, non-threatening way. You will be treated as I would want
to be treated; who could ask for more than that?
3) I will
help you reduce your stress level. Managing isn't always easy,
and sometimes you need someone who's been there to help you figure out
ways to reduce stress, whether it's induced by your thoughts about your
job, your job in general, or the people you work with.
4) I will
help you
focus on the types of things you want to, and
need to, know to be a more effective leader, manager, and person.
5) I will be
committed to you, and anything we talk about will be
held in the strictest confidence; the only fear you'll ever have from
me is how much I'll make you work on your own self; you can't be afraid
to explore your own thoughts and actions when working with me.
How do I do this? Why should you contact
me? Let's look at some
steps.
1) Our
initial session will be an exploratory one. We will determine
your issues, answer any immediate questions, see if we have
compatibility to work with each other.
2) If we
decide to
go
further, the next step will be my giving you clarifying assignments;
every person needs to have goals, something to work on, so they know
exactly where it is they want to go.
3) We will
begin to
tackle the most immediate needs you may have, if you have any. We
can't deal with long range goals if your mind isn't in the proper place
to go there; however, you need the long range goals so you know where
you want to be once we get through it all together.
4) We will
work on
plans for reaching your goals. Goals on their own mean nothing if
there isn't a plan for how to get to those goals. Somebody once
said that the day you have no more goals is the day you cease to exist;
you're not only going to exist, but you're going to be significant!
How fast does
it all move? How long will it take? Well, that depends on
each individual. Some people have found everything they need in a
couple of sessions; some people take three to six months. In
2004, one of my coaching clients changed his professional and personal
life after the free session; with one major discovery on his part, he
went out and landed a $80,000 contract within two weeks, and reported
that by applying the same change into his personal life he found that
people responded to him in a positive way immediately. Another of
my coaching clients, by her third session, had learned a skill that she
took into her place of employment, used it to present an issue to upper
management, and said they not only took her seriously and adopted her
idea, but received a compliment from the president of the company who
said he always knew she had that person inside of her. She
reduced her stress level so much that the strategies she'd needed in
planning her wedding came together, in her words "almost out of the
blue", and she had finalized everything within the next two weeks.
There
are executives in America who stay with their coaches forever, keeping
them on retainer when they don't need to interact as often with them,
because they recognize the
importance of having that one person who's independent of their
organization, who they can talk to and address both their professional
and personal issues with. Think about some famous and successful
people who have used professional coaches at some point in their
lives: Oprah Winfrey, Bob
Nardelli (CEO of Home Depot), Phil
McGraw, even Tony
Robbins, Mr. Motivation himself! Successful people know
what's
important to help them get to where they want to go; you can achieve
great things also, and I'm here to help you do it.
Has
anyone ever explained just what
coaching is supposed to be? If not, sit back and let me tell
you. The process of
coaching is one of self discovery by the participant. The coach
works
with the client through a questioning process; every once in awhile,
the coach gives out assignments for the client to work on, but most of
the time coaches listen a lot and talk a little. As an
executive coach, if we're talking about work, I may talk more than if
we're discussing you personally; a good coach goes where you want to
go, within reason.
Most
of the questions are based on listening. The difference
between coaching and counseling, so to speak, is that, in general,
there is no true direction that is supposed to occur. As an
executive coach, we're trying to make you better; as a life coach,
we're trying to make your life feel better. But we're not trying
to cure you of anything. It's also not
consulting, in that the coach doesn't tell the client what to do all
the time, like a consultant might. An executive coach will guide
you through the proper business practices they coach on, but it's up to
the participant to decide which way they want to go. A life coach
goes with the flow, never really sure where the journey will lead, but
will get the participant thinking about their lives in more positive
ways. Executive coaching usually ends up being life coaching in a
way, because as the participant learns better ways of working with
others, they usually tend to apply those same principles to their
personal lives, and usually like what they see.
When
all is said and done, it’s up to the client to be responsive to
the coach, opening up their minds to their own inner essence, and to
answer most of the questions for themselves, because coaching
presupposes most clients know what they really want to do.
Coaching helps pull out the essence, and sometimes the process of discovery is
amazing because what you initially say it is you want may not be the
way it turns out. In any case, though it takes work on the
clients’
part, the process should be positive, and feel positive.
Why
not find out what it's all about for yourself? I offer a free
30-minute session, and, as most of it is done by telephone, my
clients
are not only local, but all over the United States and Canada.
Your first step is to contact me through email,
or call me (315-622-5922), so
we can set up a time
to have a conversation; that is, if we're going to talk on the
phone. Sometimes, we can begin our session right then and there,
but it's rare. In either case, the first call is on
you, as this proves that you're serious about changing things in
your professional or personal life. If we commit to a working
relationship, and you sign a contract, I'll handle all the phone callss
after that. I'm here for you; let's work together towards your
ultimate goals and dreams. Trust
me, 30 minutes is all it will take
to see if we can work with each other to guide you
towards being a better manager and leader, and we may even go over the
first time out.
There
are
three different options for coaching services. One
option is to meet face to face; obviously, this is for local
participants, within central New York. The second option is by
telephone, which is the most common way coaches and participants work
with each other. The third option is through email, because some
participants feel more comfortable writing than speaking. Each
service has many different rates, which will be
revealed once you have determined that coaching services may be
something you wish to explore further.
If you're still unsure, or want to get a better sense of who I am and
what I'm about, you can check out my biography
page, as well as read a
few of my newsletters,
which you should subscribe to anyway.
Great
people start with a
goal, then a plan; I can help you with those goals and plans.
Great leaders inspire others
to be the best they can; is that something you aspire to?
