Winning Attitudes
Posted by Mitch Mitchell on May 21, 2009
It's not every day that one ends up in the newspaper, and it's even more fun to be online. So, I paste this news story on Winning Attitudes, which includes your truly in a small, independent segment, complete with my red office in the background. The picture made me a little bit red also, but that's okay I guess.
Lately, I've been in a pretty good mood. I'm not really sure why, but I think it's got something to do with my reinventing myself again. See, it's been slow going in getting my next consulting assignment. The economy takes down even those of us who help others make more money, especially on the health care side.
So, I dove into this book that I also am an affiliate for called 20 Ways To Make $100 A Day Online, looking for an idea on how to bring some extra money into the household. Lo and behold, it finally struck me that I like to write, I'm pretty good at it, and therefore I've transitioned myself into writing articles for others, while still keeping up with my own writing. This was one of the ideas in the book.
Now, when you get into a new profession on your own like this one, you have to work your way up into trusted status mode. So, I've started at a relatively low rate, although I'm finding that there are people starting at much lower rates than mine, especially those in other countries.
Where there's a will, there's always another way. This would be a very interesting transition to another career, as if I needed another career, because not only does it show how flexible people can be if they're ready to work (talk about work; I wrote 38 articles today, and that doesn't include an early morning blog post on another blog and this article now) and have other goals in mind. One of my goals is to be home for a summer, which I haven't had the opportunity to enjoy since 2003. Of course, I'll have to step up the income level just a bit more, but it's a start.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the little news story with me in it, and of course I'll be creating it at a pdf file for when the story leaves the netherworld of the internet.
Good afternoon, Mitch.
In the past, when I was mostly a consultant, I had slack periods between assignments, too. I always find it interesting what other consultants do when they are facing a time when their main business isn’t keeping them busy.
You have a real talent for writing and I think writing for others is a good move. I hope it proves to be lucrative.
“Winning Attitudes” also struck me as very important, especially since I’ve been struggling with my attitude over the last month or two.
Sometimes when we’re working hard to do something and can’t quite get the idea over to the people we’re wanting to help, it can be frustrating.
Normally, I find maintaining a positive attitude easy to do, and it’s always nice to get a reminder from others when I’ve been struggling with it.
Thanks for the boost.

Thanks for the comment, John. You know, I just have to say this, but I hope that, if you felt the need to do it, that you find someone to talk to, because of what you went through late last year with your mother. That was a tough time, and no one would think any less of you if you just found someone locally to talk to a couple of times. That might help get things going again in some fashion.
As for the positive attitude thing, it can be difficult sometimes. As I said in that article, I’m certainly not happy 24/7; I think I’d bust, as anyone else would do. But I’m doing very well lately, so I’m going to ride this horse into the ground. 🙂
Good morning, Mitch.
Ride that horse, pardner! 😉
I do have a couple of people I can talk to and it does help. These last six months have been some of the hardest of my life, ranking right up there with my divorce and bankruptcy nearly two decades ago.
I am a very independent person and I find it hard to ask others for help, but as I grow older, I find that there are times when I need to do just that. I’ve also found that there are people willing to help when you ask them for something specific they can do.
So, I’ve learned some valuable lessons over the last six months.
There are times when life can be very harsh, yet I’m still lucky in many ways. The falling economy has hurt me, but not to the extent that some people have been devastated. I’m lucky by comparison.
We don’t have to keep a positive attitude 24/7 and I that that trying to do so would be unhealthy. Sometimes we have a right to be down and maybe even wallow in it for awhile.
Eventually, however, we have to get up, dust ourself off, and get back on that horse you mentioned.
It may throw us again, but sooner or later we’ll be able to ride that rascal for all we’re worth.
Can you tell that I was a real rodeo fan in the past?
😉
Again, congratulations for the profile on their blog and best of luck with your writing.

Thanks John, and I’m glad you have found some ways to help bring some peace of mind to yourself. Yeah, we all go through tough times; I’ve been where you are now. Good luck, and keep writing yourself.
