I'm late to this discussion because, well, I wanted to be last in on it. I want to give the proper accolades to both Tony Dungy of the Indianapolis Colts and Lovie Smith of the Chicago Bears for getting their teams into the Super Bowl. I'm somewhat surprised that Indianapolis is favored, as bad as they played down the stretch, though they did finally put it together to make it this far.

Two black coaches for the first time; I just can't express how proud and glad and sad I am at the same time. I'm proud because I never thought I'd see the day when one coach made it this far; Tony's teams have had that ability to lose the big game in his history. I'm glad because a black coach will win, which will be another first, and I don't really care who wins, though I let my friend pick Indianapolis, with pizza on the line. And I'm sad that it's taken this long, 40 years, for it to occur, mainly because, except for Art Shell, it took this long just to have enough black coaches in the league where this became a possibility.

I'm also sad that here we are, in 2007, and there are still firsts that are out there to be attained by black people in America. I've certainly had my share of firsts, which I've accepted with the same glad and sad attitude as I'm viewing this game with. Luckily, the sad isn't so overwhelming; I'll allow glad to win every time.

So let's go Bears; let's go Colts! I win either way, and so does America.
