Every once in awhile, I get on a roll when I'm working, and the work is pretty much all-consuming. Thing is, when one works for themselves, if you're not working you're not making any money. These days, while I'm in between consulting gigs, I'm making my living writing for other people. It's interesting because I've learned some fascinating (vertical farms) and not so fascinating (epilators) things, but I'm always learning something.

However, what happens is that I get behind on email, and I get behind on blog posts, and that's not good at all. Yes, the work is the work, and I have to get paid, but I also have to make sure I follow up on my email. I do make sure I take care of clients first, then potential new customers second, so at least I do have some priorities right in my life.

I also need to remind people that, when I am working, it might be a bit longer than normal before I get back to them. People are used to my getting back to them within a couple of hours at the longest; I've maintained that type of schedule for years. But sometimes, you have to train people who know you on how to be flexible like you. It's not easy, but it can be done, and honesty is the way to do it.

How do you sort your priorities in your work life, and of course in your personal life, so that you can make time for everyone, and let people know that sometimes it just has to be about you? Why not share your thoughts here.
