Spring Is Coming; Reinvent Your Life
Posted by Mitch Mitchell on Mar 7, 2012
Can you believe spring is right around the corner? Here in central New York, we've been lucky this winter with very little snow, but we know how fast that can change. Normally with spring comes the life of the trees, more birds will be singing, and grass will grow greener and greener, and we’ll all be ready to go outside again in short sleeves and shorts. I hate the bugs but that's on me. lol

Spring represents a new beginning, a chance for nature to show not only its beauty, but the chance to improve upon itself. I say represents, because every single day of our lives, no matter the season, is another chance to start anew, to give yourself another chance to improve, to give yourself another chance to learn, to make new friends and new connections, and to be the best you can be.
Have you stagnated in your business and life? Does it seem as though the things that worked yesterday are suddenly not working today? Are you at the point where it seems like it’s the same ol’, same ol’, and you wish you could find a way to change things a little bit?
If so, you’ve come to the right place in your life. Today is the beginning of the rest of your life; okay, it’s been said before. But it’s the truth, both here and in life. Today let’s talk about reinvention of yourself, your life, your business.
When you wake up in the morning, what do you do? Do you do the same thing every single morning? Do you get up, go to the bathroom, take a shower, get dressed, get something to eat, then either leave to go to work or, if you work from home, get onto your computer or whatever and do the same thing every day? If so, it’s time for a small change. Get out of your comfort zone; do something different.
I’m as much of a creature of habit as the next person, because it’s safe. I work at home, and it’s easy to go on auto pilot by following the same process every morning. However, every once in awhile, instead of coming straight to the computer, I’ll go to the gym first thing in the morning, or if the weather is good go for a quick walk. Sometimes I go into the kitchen and something to drink; I rarely eat immediately when I get up. Sometimes it’s circumstances that call for the changes, but not often. If you want something to change, you have to find a way to make a change, even if it’s something as small as putting your right shoe on before your left shoe one day.
The second is a change in attitude. This can be difficult if things aren’t going as well as you had hoped they would. It’s hard to empty the mental trash of disappointment, but you can’t keep carrying that around with you every single day. It’s a new day, and it calls for new challenges; throw out the bad and breathe in the new. Remember, life and business is what you make it. You can only control yourself, and if you’re already starting yourself on a negative road, you’ll only keep sliding backwards instead of skating forward.
The third and final thing for the day is recognition. Recognize that you’re not alone. Recognize that there’s a network of other people like yourself. You probably already have a network of people you can share with and talk to; just reach out to them. It's amazing to find people willing to give some of their time to you, to talk to you and help you. Some of those same people need the interaction just as much as you do; that's always nice to know.
Of course, if you decided you wanted even more and wanted to pay for it, you could always go for some coaching. But who knows, I might talk to you anyway for a brief moment; one never knows, right? Now get out there and succeed!

Very positive article, Mitch. I nearly lost perception about the seasons, as the destination I live have only 3 seasons – hot, hot and wet and hot and very hot, wow. Actually there will be spring this year, or at least I feel this way. Just get an offer to become coach at small real estate company and I think to accept this challenge. They offered me to be full time manager because of my experience in vacation rental business, however I rejected that, as similar to you, I prefer to work from home, however there was counteroffer, to enter in the role of coach,3 times a week which I accepted, it will be challenge as different level of experience, knowledge and of course language barrier. On the other hand I feel that this particular team want to learn and advance, they are all very motivated young ladies.
Carl, that’s funny how you describe your seasons. Normally we like to say around here that it can snow at any time but this year’s making us rethink some of that as we’ve had very little snow and actually broke a temperature record yesterday. It sounds like you’ve been the master of reinvention in your life.
Sure, we describe things the same way in my home country, but here I guess that things are a bit basic. I seasons matter with a friend of mine, also expat. It seems that people here and not much on the planning side and we concluded that one of the main reason can be lack of cold season. Since the very beginning, human kind had to be prepared for the Winter and plan how to survive during this time of the year and here, you lay under the coconut tree and wait for gravity to help, wow. However, I am very exited about this new challenge, I have always thought that I am not a good teacher or coach, but the first two meetings prove me wrong and I have to thank to you, as reading your blogs helped me to become better person and even better manager.
Thanks Carl; I appreciate that. And you’re sitting under coconut trees; aren’t you worried about some of them falling on you? lol
Hi Mitch, spring is my favorite season because for me, it marks a new beginning. 🙂 A change in attitude is absolutely a great thing to do with our lives. 🙂
I think so Emilia; go for the gusto.
