With all the bad stuff that's come out lately about leaders of some companies, it was interesting to come across a post on a blog called Great Leadership by Dan McCarthy, called Leadership Scruples; What Would You Do? He came up with 20 questions to test every person's morality and ethics by answering just what you might do if confronted with these issues.

I'm going to do something slightly different than the norm. I'm going to give my answers, but I'm not going to tell you what the questions are. Instead, I'm going to encourage you to go to Dan's site, review the questions for yourself, then either answer them on his blog, my blog, or on your own blog. It would be interesting to get your take on the answers I'm giving, but I think it's more important to see if you have it in you to take the time to look at the questions and decide where you fit.

Without further ado, here are my answers:

1. No, I wouldn't help myself.

2. Yes I do, as I always share.

3. No, because my word is my bond.

4. No, because it's none of my business.

5. No, because it's not my issue.

6. No, because I'd rather not know.

7. No, but me being me, I'd have never allowed myself to be put into that position in the first place.

8. Yes I do, because it's disrupting the workplace.

9. I would hope I'd say something, but I'm not really sure.

10. No, I let that one go.

11. No, because I believe letting someone else win, especially when they know it, sends the wrong long term message.

12. No, because that's a lie I'd have to keep up for a long time.

13. No, but I'd like to think I'm not quite that shallow.

14. No, I try to see if the people working there know who it belongs to.

15. No, but I would give other information to help my friend do well.

16. No; I'd find more ethical criteria.

17. Probably not, but if she was the best candidate for the job, I'd disclose it to whomever I reported to, then, if given the go ahead, probably hire her anyway.

18. I tell the customer what the company policy is and tell them the name of the person who can overturn the policy.

19. I do it my way and wait to see if the results prove out; I've done this in my past.

20. I tell the manager, and "dare" the manager to try to blame it on me.

And there you go; 20 questions answered. What did I answer? Follow the link above to find out.
