Emergency room visits are rarely pleasant, even if it's not you that's injured you still usually have to sit there with strangers spilling blood and guts all over you (yeah, i might be exaggerating a bit ;) - generally it's uncomfortable. Following the 3 steps you provided us with should shorten the time you sit and wait significantly. And while the first 2 sound like a no brainer, it's quite easy to forget about it when stressed.
