Barack Obama Inauguration – U Will Know
Posted by Mitch Mitchell on Jan 20, 2009
Today is the inauguration of Barack Obama as president of the United States of America. It follows the 41st anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr, which I wrote about yesterday. Today, I don't have a lot of words to say, because it's not really about me today, although it is about me. I'm only a few years older than President Obama (yup, I'm saying it now), but when I was a kid, I never believed I could become president. Sure, I did believe I could become almost anything in the world, but president wasn't one of those things.
So, today is the day, the day of hope, but with reservations. I know that he can't fix everything today, and I hope everyone else knows it also. But he does bring hope, and he brings energy, and he brings togetherness. These are things that weren't prevalent in either 2000 or 2004, so it is indeed a new day.
I thought about what to post here today to help get my feelings across. I decided to post this video for the song "U Will Know" from the movie "Jason's Lyric", along with the lyrics to the song; they're fitting. Congratulations, President Obama; now, let's get to work:
I had visions of fame
They were wild and they were free
They were blessed with my name
And then I grew older
And I saw what's to see
That the world is full of pain
And my dreams, they left me
And then I got stronger
Inside of the pain
That's when picked up the pieces
And I regained my name
And I fought hard, y'all
To call by my place
And right now you could ask me
And it all seems in vain
Your dreams ain't easy
(Your dreams ain't easy)
You just stick by your plan
(You just stick by your plan)
Go from boys to men
(Go from boys to men)
You must act like a man
(You gotta act like a man)
When it gets hard, y'all
(When it gets hard, y'all)
You just grab what you know
(Grab what you know)
Stand up tall and don't you fall
(And my background sing)
You will know (you will know)
Yeah, yeah (you will know)
(You will know) you will know
(You will know)
And I know you're crying
Cause it's all in his fate
And the things you want
You can't have
It just all went away
But life ain't over, ooh
Just grab the wind
And make the mends
And the vow will take you far
Your dreams ain't easy
(Your dreams ain't easy)
You just stick by your plan
(Stick by your plan)
Go from boys to men
(Go from boys to men)
You must act like a man
(I know it ain't easy)
(It gets hard sometimes)
When it gets hard, y'all
You just grab what you know
Stand up tall and don't you fall
(Stand up tall, don't you fall)
And you will know, baby
(You will know)
(You will know)
(You will know)
Hey, there's no doubt about it
(You will know) hey, you will know
Like you, I realize he won’t be able to fix everything. This will take the work of One Nation not One Man. I just hope everyone else realizes this and don’t turn on him when he is not the end all be all.
Unfortunately, based on the “turmoil” caused with some of his cabinet picks, not for who they were but for what they “weren’t”, I don’t think so. And that’s just a shame.
you know what…
I don´t think it is the work of One Nation if that is referring to the US of A …. I believe it will have to be the work of One World.
When “things” in the US started falling apart, a whole chain of “things” started falling apart around the whole world and it was freakin´ hard to watch the elections that would influence not just America but my country and others worlwide, without having the opportunity to cast my vote on the person that would influence my future as well.
I watched all the debates even though they were broadcasted when I should have been sound asleep, I watched election day, right through the night up till 7 am to see if my favorite would really win or not.
And like 90% of the Dutch population, I celebrated knowing that Obama had won.
I think more than just One Nation are looking for more togetherness worldwide 😉
Mirjam´s last blog post..Are You Ready for Change?
Wow, I thought I’d responded to this one already, but I must have forgotten to save it. I agree with you, Mirjam, to a point. Yes, the world needs to work together on a lot of our problems, but, when it comes to finances, most of the rest of the world seems to look to see what the U.S. market looks like before determining how theirs is going to go. It’s been proven over the last bunch of months anyway. So, in this particular instance, President Obama really needs to fix the American economy, and by doing do the rest of the world’s economy should come together around the same time. It’s an interesting symbiosis, but it’s there.
I’m glad you watched all the debates and such; you probably watched more than I did, but I was definitely informed way beforehand on what I wanted.
