HFMA Meeting

(originally published February 25th, 2005)

Today I went to a local chapter HFMA meeting at Turning Stone Casino in Oneida, NY; I’m a member of this organization. The presentation was called “The Uninsured: A Growing Cost To Hospitals - Issues & Solutions” and “Hospital Reimbrusement Legal Issues”, and it was given by AHC Incorporated; this particular group is based out of the Albany, NY area. My good friend Sheila Boyce, VP of Entitlement Programs, was one of the presenters, along with Stacy Smith and Shirley Dawson, a newcomer on the scene. I have to say that I’ve never been to a bad presentation these folks have given; very good information all around. One of the things that’s different about their presentations, something I probably need to remember more often, is that they give a lot of information that has something to do with the topic at hand, but nothing to do with the presentation. They also provide many examples of articles they’ve written and had published in different healthcare magazines, some on the topic, many not necessarily on the topic, but it all shows their expertise. Heck, I’ve got lots of articles printed myself; I need to do that when I can. Anyway, met a number of new people, as well as made some old acquaintances that I hadn’t seen in a long time. Good time by all; well, except at poker, but don’t ask about that.
